Adopters with experience of the education system

Press and PR Officer July 10, 2013 10:03
Dear All, We have been contacted by a writer who is putting together a feature about the education system - schools and local authority services – and how they are working to understand and adequately help adopted children who are struggling because of early trauma. She would like to speak with headteachers about how they have worked in their school (and maybe with their local education services specialists) to help children and parents access the education to which that young person has a right and the learning their school/local authority has been through to achieve that progress. She would also like to talk with a couple of adoptive parents who are currently, or over time but are still experiencing unhelpful attitudes from their local authority regarding funding for specialist services that would allow their adopted child to access education. If you feel you could share your experiences in this area, please contact us as soon as possible (---- EMAIL REDACTED ----) with a brief outline of your experiences. Many thanks, Adoption UK Press & PR Team

just to let everyone know that I spoke to this journalist last week. She is hoping to get this article sorted out soon, but with all articles of this nature, there has to be some sort of balance. She has explained to me that she really needs to speak to at least 2 HT's who have fought the corner of traumatised adopted children with the LA/Ed Psych's etc to get the help that the child needs without the fight fight fight. So if you, or anyone who you know has had a really resourceful and totally supportive HT helping your traumatised adopted child to get what they need, please respond to the Press and PR officers request.Jellies
