So, today our adoption order was finally approved, however we were informed that there is a 21-day appeal period, during which birth parents could still appeal the decision of the court. We were also informed by our adoption agency that from today our child is no longer consider a ´looked after child´and that we are now the legal parents. We have three questions that someone might know the answer to:
-Does anyone know if the appeal that birth parents can now make during the 21 day period is different to the appeals they could make before the adoption order was granted? Is it correct that the appeal they could now make would have to be about any irregularity that the court has made during the process (e.g. not following certain legal steps before approving the adoption order), rather than about why the child should be returned to them?
-Also, if the birth parents made an appeal what would this mean for the status of the child? Would the child be considered again a ´looked after child´while the appeal is being considered by the court?
-If the birth parents made an appeal, would this mean that there would be further court hearings, including another final hearing to re-approve the adoption order?
Many thanks
