Dual heritage White/Black combinations

Birdsnest October 9, 2012 19:55
Hi allSorry it''s a funny title but don''t know how else to put it. I''m posting this here but maybe it''s transracial/cultural.We are dual heritage White British/Black Britsh Caribbean. It has been suggested that we are flexible with the ethnic matching re other dual heritage White/Black children e.g. Eastern European or African heritage, especially if we want to maximise our chances of a baby (we said 0-3 and would be happy with a toddler.)I wondered whether any other other White British/Black Britsh Caribbean couples have adopted White/Black dual heritage children who don''t exactly match their ethnicity/culture and how it went/what the issues were? Thanks

Hi there, I'm White British and my partner is black British (Jamaican) and we're being matched with a 13 month old who is Nigerian/black caribbean/white. We always thought we'd only consider a child who reflected our heritage but we fell for him and are now busy researching Nigerian nursery rhymes, fairy tales etc!

Hi helbop! sorry I haven't looked in here for a while and just saw this. Huge Congratulations to you! We are also now linked exclusively with a baby who doesn't exactly reflect our heritage but is considered a good enough match. I feel strongly that he is meant to be ours. However, I am also now in a state of shock and terror - not to do with the heritage but just the whole thing. It has happened very fast and I am just overwhelmed really. I cannot believe it is happening and am terrified it will fall through and equally terrified that it won't!
