Confidentiality and Adopter Voice forum

Starlight October 23, 2015 22:31
Just wanted to flag up a potential confidentiality issue and one that has stopped me posting in the adopter voice forum so far. My username is anonymous and in no way links me to my real name. I may occasionally refer to my location as something like 'down south' and am often vague with my childrens details. These are all things I do for safety reasons. However, If I post in the adopter voice forum I will automatically be advertising where I live. This may only be to a small number of other people and I am assuming you check people who are members to ensure they are actually adopters.. but it still makes me feel worried. No one else has posted in my area and I wonder if other people feel the same way I do?

I was under the impression that Adoption UK was almost like a 'closed group'. I'm not impressed that anyone seems to be able to read the forum without logging in. I was very annoyed when my post on Adopter Voice showed up on the main forum and as you point out advertises where I live. I will not be using it again!

I feel exactly the same Starlight. I thought that the Adopter Voice thing was to be a joint forum between adopters and social workers organised by LA. Have not investigated any further as I really don't think that is very wise and would feel vulnerable. Not that we have anything to hide but it doesn't feel right at all to me.

To assure that we have provided an alternative to Starlight's original question, the subject was also brought up on another thread: http://www.adoptionuk.org/forum-topic/adopter-voice-0 Best wishes
