Billy Graham

Larsti February 21, 2018 23:25
My daughter texted me to ask if I had heard that Billy Graham had gone to be with the Lord. He was 99. I was born again when I was 11 but I never really learnt how to walk with God and live for him and soon was telling Christians I met 'I used to be a Christian'. Fast forward to 1984 when someone asked me to go to a Billy Graham crusade in Bristol. I already knew before I went that I would go forward when he asked people to. I wanted to show that I wanted to follow Jesus. Part of following Jesus was adopting Dash who was placed with our family in 2009. Only the other day I was quite negative about adoption on here, but we have never regretted adopting Dash. We didn't know what we were saying yes to but God did!! So I have posted this to mark Billy Graham's passing in my own way, on a small corner of the Internet. The following is from Billy Graham's twitter account "I have one message: that Jesus Christ came, he died on a cross, he rose again, and he asked us to repent of our sins and receive him by faith as Lord and Savior, and if we do, we have forgiveness of all of our sins." —Billy Graham

Thanks Larsti, Personally I rather like this quote from Billy Graham, "Some day you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don't you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God."

I also went to see Billy Graham (at Villa Park) in 1984 and went forward - though it took me a few more years to really walk with Christ. We adopted our three for similar reasons - we were sure God wanted us to - and although its been a tough journey, we still trust in him for our futures.

I went to see him at Anfield in 1984 - dragged there by my brother! It wasn't til 12 years later I grasped what he was saying. I adopted because I wanted to be a Mum, but I knew absolutely that my daughter was God's plan for us both, and that has taken me through many difficult times, through a change in job and through continuous financial uncertainty

Another one here! I became a christian at uni . Many moons ago now! Life has certainly not been plain sailing by any means but i have never doubted Gods hand on my life and he has sustained me through many a drama. I also felt that adoption was part of the plan for my life along with fostering and i have no regrets at all. He has never failed me and I really dont think i would survive life without Him !

Thanks. I was interested to read in Larsti's comment that adopting was 'Part of following Jesus' and that this has been echoed by others. I hope I am not going too much 'off topic' but, it seems to me that many people, including adoption services, assume that wanting a child is the only reason why people apply to adopt. In my experience this is certainly not the case. People, perhaps especially Christians, adopt for many different reasons. If I remember rightly it is something that James Taylor addresses in his booklet 'Help! I Need to Know About the Problems of Adoption'. https://www.10ofthose.com/products/22555/help-i-need-to-know#review I think Billy Graham would have agreed with what James Taylor said. (We are back 'on topic' again!)

Will take a look at that Chopsticks. We already had 3 birth children. We spoke about adoption after 2 children but didn't pursue it at that point. Then we moved away from the town where we met and married and away from all the people we had been there our whole married lives. Our youngest was 18 months at that point and when she was 4 we went to an information evening at a VA. Dash was placed when she was 9 (through our LA). It was a long road with a house move and 2 bereavements during homestudy, which delayed things. The first question we were asked at panel was 'Why do you want to adopt? (which for some reason surprised DH, maybe because, well they had all the paperwork!) And the only answer we had was we just both wanted to and at no point did we get a 'no'. As I have said on another thread, if we had known what lay ahead (in particular for our youngest BC) we would not have adopted. But that's not the same as regretting adoption.

In April’s Christianity Magazine they did a whole piece about Billy Graham. He was an amazing man who acted with integrity at all times.

I have no faith but I admired Billy Graham very much and thought he was a genuinely good and kind man.

He was Madrid. One of his daughter's told a moving story about his kindness to her. It's about a minute in to this Youtube video. Larsti x
