I think that Ethiopia would be an option within your timescale but not sure about your budget. LAs or other approved authorities will charge upwards of £3K for a homestudy, some charge a lot, lot more than that. The DfES now also charge a processing fee - I think in the region of £1700. There will be other costs incurred in this country, embassy fees and notary fees. Ethiopia usually requires 2 visits, first one is short and second is longer with more paperwork and court appearances. As well as the cost of 2 sets of travel there will be in-country fees.As others have suggested it's worth joining AOUK yahoo group and maybe groups relating to specific countries, definitely OASIS as they're the ones with the most up to date knowledge - all experienced intercountry adopters and volunteers.Good luck,WHNM

Hi,Join the Intercountry Adoption yahoo group, they will be able to give you more information. Their address is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKAO/I know the UK is starting to work with China SN's very soon, and if you go to China Adopt Talk (check the forum) you'll see that some of the children have very mild or correctable SN's.The UK is also working with Ethiopia, Russia (again the price varies a lot depending on which facilitator you use in country), the Philippines and this is all I can think of now, but contact the yahoo group and ask.Basicly I think there are 2/3 Countries we are not allowed to adopt from (Guatemala, Cambodia), but all the other ones can be an option. There is also some country specific requirements you can check on this page of the department of Education: http://www.education.gov.uk/childrenandyoungpeople/families/intercountryadoption/b005784/country-specific-information/Good luck on your journey,s

The IAC will only be working with China SN if £50K can be raised, that's a lot of money and they expect the adoptive community to raise it. It would be wonderful if SN adoptions from China could be undertaken from the UK but don't count on it yet!
