Hi there Looking to get ds, 7, an electronic keyboard, can be second hand. Anyone know anything about them? What to get, what to avoid, what would last if he continues to love them? Been looking on various sites but don't know what I'm looking for really. His cousin has a secondhand one and ds loves it, will spend hours on it, so something you can make odd noises with and has an option for headphones would be good. :) A well known auction site has loads for sale!

Hi there -I am not really an expert on keyboards but we own a number here, and DH and the kids play them. You want to avoid one that says it is a "keyboard controller" as this needs a PC or tablet and computer software to make the different sounds. Aside from that it all depends how musical he is, and how much space you have. You can either go for a full size keyboard with full size keys, 54 of them (5 octaves) or a mini keyboard with 32 mini keys (3 octaves) which will be much smaller. All of them tend to have a large selection of rhythms and voices and it is handy to have a teaching function. Other options worth looking at/considering are touch sensitive keys (that play louder if you hit them harder) and a midi option which allows for computer connection if anyone is keen on that. You might need to buy a separate stand if you go for a bigger one. If this is too basic in terms of info let me know and I will consult DH (the oracle) when he is back from work.
