If the child is already known to a Paediatrician then they write to them for reports and don't necessarily make appointments.

We went to see the paedeatrician a week or so again for a pre statement panel medical. The idea was to see if there were any medical problems that were causing his issues at school. From my point of view it was a waste of time. He asked if I had had his eyesight and hearing checked, he listened to his heart. He then said that he didn't need to see him again and that he would write a report for the SEN panel.

Really basic 'tick box' exercise in my experience. Wouldn't expect too much of it. But often the medical part holds things up and education can't make health comply with their timescales (this is the situation we got into - and there was nothing we could do about it).

Our SEN panel date was delayed while we waited for the medical assessment.

We got our one & only paeds appt this way & boy was it worth it. The dr we saw was fantastic & made all the difference to our application. It also got us a salt assessment which was also a clincher for the statement.
