Quick post just to see how this works....

Seems fine, but the "posted today" button seems to have disappeared? Will it return?

Can't see a way to do private messages to other users? Or see any sent to me?

Also can't work out how to reply to a post?

Bop

Hi Bop,

We are working towards implementing a version of the ‘Posted today’ button. In the meantime, you can see the most recent posts in the ‘Last activity’ column on the forums/topics listing pages.

The private messaging feature from the old Adoption UK forum has changed. Now, only verified adopters can private message one another through the 'Chat' page, found in the Adoption UK menu when logged in. This is where you will see all messages sent to you. A user needs to have an Adoption UK membership in order to initiate a chat, but all verified adopters can respond to chats sent to them.

If you are a public forum only user, you will not be able to chat with other users.

We apologise that the reply to post feature was not working yesterday or earlier today, but that is now up and running.

If you have any further technical questions about the new forum, you can contact our support team at [email protected] or call 0843 886 0040.

Kind regards,
The Link Maker team

Hi - feels strange and sad to be on the new forum... like a different land. I am here, but don’t feel I know my way round... miss the G thread!

feel I have lost many friends without any way of finding them again.

Hope the forum will pick up again and provide the same support it used to.

from a rather sad bigmrs xx

Not usually a complainer but getting really frustrated that despite being a fully paid up AUK member I am at the whim of my agency to verify my adopter status before I can access all areas of the super duper new forum and because linkmaker's number is a premium one it's cost me over £11 on my mobile to discover this ?

Long-time lurker in the old boards here, I tried to join before but unsuccessfully, I think my verification email ended up in my spam folder. Just resting my ability to post for the first time.

HI Kazzie,

Apologies for the frustration. Please do contact the helpline as it is not a premium number. Link Maker telephone lines are open 9:00am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. Cost of the calls will vary, but will be charged at the standard rate from your service provider.

You can also contact Link Maker and find more information here https://www.linkmaker.co.uk/contact

Hi AUK Online Team.

0843 numbers cost between 0p and over 60p per minute depending on how you connect to them. They are a two component number so there is a call cost for access and one for connecting to the service. The Access charge can be between 0p and 7p per minute and the individual phone companies list their service charges on their websites : For example if you call from Vodafone then the call will cost the Access charge plus Vodafone's service charge of £0.55 per minute. So if the Access charge was the maximum of 7p per minute this would make the call £0.62 per minute form Vodafone. It is not that far fetched to see an £11.00 bill for a support call. This from Ofcom:

Hi Ford. In fact, you would only pay the component of the fee that goes to your own phone company, as we cover for the rest of the call cost ourselves. However, we know that you cant tell this from the 0843 code, and are looking into replacing this with an 0800 number. I hope this helps.

It’s good that you are covering the access charge however the Service charge is still at a rate most would consider premium from anything other than a landline. In the example above from Vodafone, it would cost 55p per minute. I know it is old hat but how about just using a regular phone line, many of us wouldn’t be charged for calls from landlines and a good number wouldn’t be charged from mobiles either.

Thanks for this - we're looking at all options. Ofcom says of 0800 numbers "Calls are free of charge from all consumer landlines and mobile phones.". In which case this would be a good option?

I've not returned to these boards since day one - and am sad to see how dead they are. Many experienced adopters seem to have left and there are hardly any posts. Maybe its time to rethink some of the revamp and listen to what users need/want?

Sadly AUK do not seem to have learnt - the last two forum changes have been equally badly managed and users opinions ignored - the first time nearly sank me/our family as I lost vital support at a critical time - I really hope that there is no-one else in that situation just now.
