Medical during C-19

Bettybear January 13, 2021 20:23

Hi all, we have just applied for our access NI certificate and completing our social histories; however finding it extremely difficult to get our medicals done. Our GP has refused due to COVID. Our SW was willing to accept medical form completed to best of GPs ability without is being present; however the GP has refused this also due to them being flat out with vaccine roll out etc. I contacted BUPA who were charging £800 each and Kingsbridge who weren’t carrying out medicals due to COVID. Is any one else finding this difficult. We are a yr in the process and only starting assessment period now as Covid already set us back

Hello Bettybear,

I can understand your situation and your frustration. We where lucky enough to do our medicals after the first wave, in July if i remember well, and it was the only thing missing in our paperwork! Unfortunately I think that the only option is to wait 😐. The only think that I could suggest is to make sure that your GP knows what he is suppose to do. In our case they did not know what they had to do and it took us a while before they understood that they only needed to complete a questionnaire!😅

We were lucky in that we could do a lot of our measurements, bp, hr, weight, height, tape measurements and urine tests etc at home. Our SW was happy for virtual medical and to be honest the GP just copied a lot of what we had written and accepted photos of tests.

Our SW did mention that not all GPs in the area were as accommodating and that her supervisor was looking to put a communication out.

I would ask SW to contact practice manager to confirm.

Good luck

We went through a similar situation my partner only got his medical at the end of stage 2, our agency/ social worker was great and agreed that we could get this done at the end with the condition we couldn’t complete stage 2 without it. Luckily after a few months of going through stage 1 and 2 and the first lockdown ending he was able to get it done it may be worth asking in a few months time hopefully it should be easier.
