My son recently had a minor accident but it has left him with a scar. Someone suggested I use something called Bio Oil. Does anyone know if it''s ok to use this on a child? Thanks.

Haven't heard of bio oil myself, so I can't help on that, but eldest DD did have a nasty fall and cut herself under her chin when she was 4 resulting in a hospital trip but no stiches. A friend recommended some amazing healing plaster things from Boots (can't remember the name). They were just like plasters only transparent jelly like things, which you cut to size and stuck over the scar. You had to wear them for a certain no. of weeks and they were really great. Her scar faded completely and now you can't see where it was at all.

After being assaulted at work (SW) my friend received prescribed ointment from the GP to reduce facial scarring. Friend did not go to GP for this reason, but whilst there GP commented on the scratches to her face and said they would scar, but to try the ointment as it may reduce the scarring, it worked, she is not scarred.Might be worth a trip to the GP.

HiBio Oil is fantastic, my sister had a nasty fall at airport resulting in extensive surgery on her ankle and a lot of scarring, the bio oil has reduced this, I recently used it on sunburn scarring for me and it definatey reduced the signs of scarring, it is as the advert (not for bio oil) says, just what it says on the tinUse it, it is expensive but it is well worth it.June

HiI have used Bio Oil and it is fabulous. As April Showers says it isn't cheap, but a little goes a very long way. I have some major scarring and it has really helped this fade. On the bottle it says that it is suiatable for all, it's often found next to the stretch mark creams in the pharmacy/supermarket. I would say the sooner you start using it the better it is, but it worked on some old scars of mine too.S

I'd check whether there's an age restriction. I can remember asking a pharmacist about it for one of my children when they were younger - can't remember when or for whom, but I know they told me that they wouldn't recommend it for a younger child.

Hi, I have used bio oil on very large surgery scars. (at least 20" of scarring possibly more)Yes it worked but my surgeon said it was over priced and its not so much the oil but the massage that works on scars. He recommeded I use 'palmers cocoa butter' which was much much cheaper. It smelled delicious too. and my scars are faded to virtually nothing now. Just thin silver slivers. tinker
