Mixed heritage bc1, white bc2, two white parents...

HealthSpa September 16, 2011 07:56
As the title suggests, this is our family and it''s ethnic make up. Ds1 is White and black African (from previous relationship) ds 2 is White British as are my dh and I. My family are of White British and Polish decent and dh is of White Irish and Welsh. However we are both adopted ourselves so not our true ethnicity but what we have family ties to these. As you can see we are a complex family so my question is- what ethnicity of child would we be matched to if at all we would be accepted?

I think that as you already have bc then sws will be concentrating more on ensuring that you find a child that will fit in with your family, rather thanspecific ethnicity, though I could be mistaken. One thing you may need to think about is how adoption has changed since you and dh were adopted, as my best friend was adopted in the 1960's and we found so much had changed that we'd not realised.l

You haven't said what stage you are at. Am I right in assuming you are just enquiring? As regards what type of match - Lonsdale is correct in saying they will look at your existing birth children when considering what type of child to place with you. The fact that you already have a mixed race child should mean that you may be considered for mixed race children too. There are far more black and mixed race children in care than white children and the fact that you have already parented a mixed race child means you have experience in dealing with peoples questions and predjucices already. A lot of mixed race children in care are only a quarter black and sometimes black or mixed couples don't consider them because they see them as being too white. These children can take longer to place. I think you are lucky as you will have a wder range of children to choose from.If you haven't done so already, perhaps you could attend an adoption open evening in your locl authority to try and find out more.Best of luck
