BME adopters wanted for research study

Press and PR Officer December 2, 2009 08:56
Dear All, A University of Birmingham MA Social Work student is conducting a study on people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities who have adopted children. The aim is to understand how the social and cultural backgrounds have affected their views about adoption. The title of her study is, ‘Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) adopters’ perspectives on Adoption’. The student is interested in this subject area after learning of research carried out by BAAF that there is a shortage of adopters from BME groups. This research would provide useful information in highlighting what BME adopters consider important and helpful when engaging in the adoption process. The study would consist of a 30 to 45-minute interview discussing the interviewee’s experiences, views and beliefs on adoption. The interviews will be recorded but will remain confidential and will be destroyed after the study is completed. The benefits from participating in the study will include being able to suggest ways for improving adoption services for potential BME adopters and service providers and contributing knowledge and information which might help potential adopters and agencies. The information collected during the interviews would be used for writing up the student’s dissertation. The data will be transcribed, analysed, evaluated and written up for my MA dissertation, after which it will be destroyed. If you would like to share your experiences, please let me know as soon as possible. Please call me on 01295 752960 or email ---- EMAIL REDACTED ---- to find out more. Kind regards, Erika
