gay ''step parent'' adoption

does anyone have experience of the above? I was a single gay woman when I adopted my daughter but now live with my partner who our daughter views as her other parent and my partner views as her little girl. We would love my partner to legally adopt our little girl but are unsure if this is possible. We have not (yet!) entered into a civil partnership and don''t know if this would have a bearing....... thanks
