Paternity Leave with Fostering To Adopt

Mark G January 8, 2023 07:31

Morning all,

I have a question about Paternity Leave when undertaking Early Permanence/Fostering To Adopt (FTA). When undertaking one of these placements when can you take the Paternity Leave? Is is when the child is placed with you under these arrangements or the when the child is matched?

Due to length of time at my job (less than 26weeks), I took annual leave when our child was placed with us under FTA. I did not take Paternity. We have now been matched with said child after case completion and I've read on the First4Adoption website you can actually take Paternity Leave and Pay once matched (https://www.first4adoption.org.uk/.../adoption-leave-pay/)

There is not much on the subject on the Government Website or others and the First4Adoption Website is the only place that states this. Anyone been through this or know anymore?

I've reached out to several people including our Social Workers but it's a bit unclear. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you.

My understanding is you can choose to take paternity leave whenever you like - within the first year I think. I remember there being discussions about this previously so it might be worth searching the archives for old threads
