Potential adoption breakdown

Smudgesmum July 20, 2020 21:28

Hello. I’m new to the group and need some advice/reassurance.

My close relative adopted a child about eight years ago.

The relationship between mother and child is seriously breaking down.

If the worst should happen and the child is returned to care, what would be the likelihood of my being able to still see the child? It would break my heart if contact was lost.

i realise this isn’t an easy thing to comment on as anyone reading is not aware of the ‘ins and outs’ of the situation, but all I can say is that I have a very positive relationship with the child.

Hi Sumdgesmum,

Thank you for reaching out via the forum. I am sure some of our regular users will be able to offer you some much needed support and advice. In terms of support for your close relative and advice and support for you, please do feel free to call our helpline. The ideal situation for you all would obviously be that there is some help that could prevent a breakdown taking place and our Helpline advisors will be able to professionally support you all and signpost you to some additional resources that can help further. They can be contacted on 0300 666 0006. Details of when the helpline is open (depending on where you live in the UK) can be found here. https://www.adoptionuk.org/helpline

Sending our best wishes,

Charlotte
