Has anyone successfully negotiated an adoption allowance post adoption order if it was not written in original plan?

I do know of an adopter who did - can't remember the name though. Post AO it became apparent that the LO had needs over and above what had been expected and they needed to give up work to accommodate those needs and successfully argued their case with the LA.

It has happened but i think there may have been something in the papers along the lines of it being renegotiated if circumstances changed. I’d give it a go though. I contemplated it a while ago but three kids from different placing authorities- I just couldn’t face it. I attempted it with one and was just told post three years AO so not their responsibility. Think it was wrong but couldn’t face arguing

We got it (seven years ago), but again, there were circumstances that were not really apparent at first. Also, we had a lot of help in getting it from our VA, who were very supportive. Hx

Yes, we did get it four years after adoption of one of our children. Two things had happened. One of us had to stop work, to keep a fuller eye on the kids( and the other was earning less than hoped) Secondly, some extra expenses related to the child's welfare had become advisable. Our post adoption social worker put in a request "up the ladder"and it was agreed that we qualified . Its re assessed every year. they ask about income, savings and any particular needs it gets used for. AA wasn't related to anything in the adoption order, here at any rate it is just an allowance that you can apply for if you fit their qualifying categories.

If I'm right those that have got it are not in England - I wonder if that makes a difference?
