Children's profiles on Facebook

Kazzie February 17, 2016 12:38
I have started getting children's profiles being 'advertised' on my Facebook page including links to videos on YouTube. I feel really uncomfortable that adoption agencies are doing this, particularly in view of some of the comments that are posted afterwards, mainly the 'gushy' type. My daughter knows that I don't put pictures of her on Facebook and is old enough to understand why although with her permission there are some (count on the fingers of one hand) where her face is obscured. The particular one that I saw the child was very young although not a baby . I'm guessing that the page may have come up as I do use my phone to sometimes look at this site so tracking cookies may be the cause. However am I just old and agencies are actually finding this a really useful method to find adopters for children?

I wouldn't have thought so. You have to become a member of certain websites to see children's profiles so that sounds a bit dodgy to me. We're going through the adoption process now and haven't seen anything like that online, only adoption link which you have to sign up to and have a DBS check for.

If it's strictly necessary in order to find a family for a child then perhaps the end justifies the means. But with 2,500 approved families available (and desperately waiting) how can it be necessary to use Facebook, with the huge loss of a privacy for a child?

This sounds a bit suspicious to me, are you sure they are legitimate uk agencies ?

Definitely a legitimate UK agency. The video is on their website as well.

Kazzie- I saw the same this week. I bet it will be linked with your searches online. If it's the same one We've seen then it's a very hard to place little girl who needs to be on her own and as such I suspect they'll be very trying anything to get her a family. If it's the same video on their website then this will have been carefully risk assessed. X
