Thought you''d all be the best ones to ask, so hope you don''t mind me picking your brains....I''m helping one of our girls write their CV, and we''re struggling with knowing how much information to put in. She does have a disability, should we mention this on the CV, I was thinking of the additional information bit, but wasn''t sure just how much information to give.Thank you!HCx

Speaking as an employer, I don't think I'd expect her disability to be mentioned in her CV. I would think that this should be mentioned in a covering letter (if at all). By law the employer is not entitled to discriminate against her due to her disability but I appreciate that you may have to intimate to them that she might need some assistance to enable her to access work.

Hello HippyOn a CV with general information on it I wouldn't necessarily mention any impairments but in application form there is often a "any other medical information"/ "Disability under the DDA" section and you have to declare disability information on these forms.Often they ask, if you were invited to interview would you require any support.Look out for employers who have the "positive about disability" tick symbol. I would work out a positive phrase. Here is one of mine:"I have a positive 'can do' attitude to life and my condition X is well managed through use of my wheelchair"

PS Although I take mrmlegal's point about there being clear DDA legislation that in my experience there is wide spread discriminatory practice in employers against disability and if they are at all unsure they will say something like "couldnt see how X would fit in within the existing team" and not cite disability directly.

Having completed many CV's with young people, I would never put it on a CV.A CV is an advert for the young person and should highlight the best things about them for a job.My advice is to do a basic CV with details on a computer and to 'tweek' it for each individual employer.Eg: for a hairdressing position, something in the personal profile section on how enjoy doing other's hair, but if also looking for retail work, then you wouldn't include this.If you want anymore help, feel free to ask either on here or pml

Thank you all so much for your help and ideas, I love the idea of including a postive phrase that builds on her strengths but doesn't specify her needs .I'll let you know how we get on.HCx
