Adopted and fostered children aged 7-11 needed for an exciting new research study.

In order to better understand how we can support adopted and fostered children throughout their education, I am carrying out an MSc study into the mental processes that allow us to plan, focus, remember instructions and be flexible with our thinking.

The purpose of the project is to investigate how these processes in children who have been adopted, or are in foster care, differ from their non-fostered/adopted peers.

Testing will take place remotely over Zoom and involves children playing an enjoyable computer game where they plan and run their own birthday party!

It takes about 45 minutes to complete and is really good fun.

But won’t this be as much about their possible diagnoses as opposed to their adoptive status? For my child, it’s not the fact that he’s an adoptee - it’s the fact that he has adhd and is autistic. His rubbish exec function, time blindness etc is because his brain is wired differently due to his dual diagnoses. This is a bit like Camhs assuming that all a child’s issues can be laid at the adoption/attachment/trauma door which often isn’t the case. And this before we even consider fas/fasd!
