Thinking of adoption, advice please....

Adoption-Butterfly January 17, 2021 18:02

Hi all,

I am new on here. Myself and my partner are thinking of adopting.

We have been fostering for a while now and love it but have been empty in recent times due to covid and the 2 lockdowns.

We have not been able to have our own children due to my partners genetic condition making him infertile. We decided to foster a while ago and have loved it but are now a little older age 39 and 46 and have been thinking that its time to adopt now before age isn't on our side.

We understand the process can take a while and even more so to get to matching panel.

So my questions are:

can you apply and be going through the assessments process whilst still fostering withanother company?

Will our age go against us for being approved to adopt young children?

How much do they look into finances and what do they ask or check?

Thank you x

Hello, I can't answer all of your questions but from what I know from doing this journey myself. Your ages won't be a problem. On the adoption UK website I am pretty sure it says there is no upper age limit, my friend who was going through this process at the same time as us is in her late 50's and so is her husband and the youngest of the siblings they adopted is nursery age. So I am sure you will be fine there. As for finances I think every council or agency is different, for us we needed to show 3 months of pay slips, bank statements and savings. Just basically to tally up with the info we had already given as to what our income is and our out goings, I think they just want to be sure you are able to take on the extra expense of a child. I don't think they are looking for perfection so if you are paying off a CC or somthing I am sure that is fine as long as you clearly show the payments are being made each month.

Good Luck, adoption is fabulous. I love it, it is such hard work but I wouldnt change a thing because now I am a mummy xx
