Do you know if you are able to see references from ex partners??? I thought under data protection you could, but we are being told no?Thanks in advance

My understanding is that all references are confidential and we don't get to see them. Even if it's something in a reference that is the reason an application is rejected, they will not divulge why.I'm worried about this too; my ex is extremely bitter about my re-marriage and will not be anything like supportive of my plans to adopt with my 'new' husband (we've been together 6 years); I am hoping the SWs will be able to sift any genuine concerns from bitter recriminations. It seems they now interview ex-partners because there was a case where a child was placed with adopters and was killed by them; had SS interviewed the ex of one of them, the previous history of domestic violence would have come out, thus potentially avoiding the child's death.Sorry if this isn't particularly reassuring, but just thought we had a shared concern on this.Good luck with your journey.

My ex not fantastic either (thus he is an ex) but our sw did say they take into account bitterness etc. We were also told if there was a real concern from any of our referees and it was something they could discuss with us they would talk about the concern but not who it came with. I think if all your other references are fine and the only person not helpful is your ex they will be sensible anyway. Not sure if this helpful as it is a bit vague.

Nope - references, from whoever is one thing they will never show you I'm afraid. I think even freedom of information doesn't enforce release of such info.Midge
