Volunteering experience with children

Laura55 January 29, 2022 17:15

Hello there,

We're in the research phase of adoption and are going to info evenings at present. We'd like to a dopt a 2-3 year old but don't have any recent experience of looking after young children. I've looked after young siblings and babysat friends' children and I helped run an after school club for primary school children.

Do we need recent volunteering experience with young children before we put in an expression of interest to an agency? Or would we do that during the assessment process?

Thanks in advance.

HI

We have just recently been approved to adopt and also had no recent experience, apart from being around friends and families children. I beleive each agency will have a different policy on this, we were not asked to do any volenteering. Id advise to approch the agency first and they will be able to advise what they require then you can plan accordingly.

Good luck in your journey!

Great thanks Ehope, good to know. Adopt South London have said we need 4-5months experience before we apply and will check directly with other agencies as you suggest. Thanks.
