Statementing

Can anyone point me in the direction of the rules regarding statementing and when the changes are due to be implemented?LOs school are now receptive to initiating the process for a social and emotional statement but say that LO needs to be upgraded to School Action Plus for 6 months first and they need to gather more evidence. They''ve also indicated that a "health" statement under the new changes is going to be hard to get as she doesn''t have a physical disability. Does this mean anything to anyone?MMx

Your local Parent Partnership should be up to speed with the new rules. Our school took a long time evidence gathering - but they were well regarded by LA and their opinion was respected, - so imo better to spend the time up front than LEA saying they needed to go and do this, that and the other.

I think the health issue is no more complicated than in the past. I applied last year for DS to be statemented and our authority were a "pathfinder" trialling the new system. The Paed and CAMHS were the major hold up. They basically did not reply! Got a draft statement through with provision for changes after they replied. It's still been a major bargaining tool for his support at school.I'm not clear that they have to wait 6 months if SAP isn't sufficient, as long as they can evidence that each level of intervention isn't sufficient I think they should be able to progress? There was an SEN organisation online I looked up for guidance on the application. As long as your proffs are on board I'm sure you'll get through it.Phoebe x

Our child is just about to go to Panel for a Statement. He has no diagnosis. We too were held up waiting for a Paed consultation. When it came it was irrelevant. What seems to matter most is that the school have not other professionals involved who then submit reports. eg. ed psych, behaviour support team, speech and language. Our school also though that excluding him a few times would also help!
