I find that it started in 1971 but no mention by whom, where or why. No History. I am doing a small project and I am unable to find information. Any help would be appreciated.

AUK started as PPIAS by a wonderful lady called Philly Morrell. I believe it initially ran from her kitchen table. She is an adoptive mum who wanted to do something to help the adoptive families who were having problems at the time. Even 11 years ago when we adopted, PPIAS was the only help available to adopters, there was no post adoption service, and we were told that once we had adopted we could wave goodbye to social workers and to any support from social services. There was no adoption leave. Professionals had very little insight into the problmes of traumatised children or of attachemnt issues. Thank god for Philly - so much has changed thanks to her and PPIAS which later became AUK.
