Helpdesk response to adopters

Bop April 8, 2016 14:59
One of the benefits of open forums is that advice offered to one poster may also be relevant to another - and sometimes we don't even know who benefits as they just read and move on. Some of those people may not feel able to post themselves for whatever reason. On the back of this I find it really irritating when the helpdesk just post their standard response along the lines of we have PM'd you with support....Please share the support in the thread for others to see in case they are facing a similar situation but have not posted themselves. I did receive a PM from the helpdesk once a while ago - and it was along the lines of call the helpline if you need more support - even if all PMs say just that, then post it on the thread rather than having a PM conversation with the individual. If you think an individual may benefit from a private conversation, by all means suggest that in the main thread, but I feel that hiding it in PMs is not helpful to the community as a whole.

Agree - as I've been reading and getting lots of valuable advice and insight for years without actually asking for it but just reading anything relevant

This has been raised several times over the 12 years I've been using the forums. Occasionally there will be a sentence saying what the suggestion is, but not often. I agree, it always grates on me too!

Agree, though I suspect it may be to help make the very general invitation sound a bit more personal to the original poster. Really useful too might be any specific advice / pointers that the helpline might have up its sleeve?

That's such a good point. But not just for help desk responses would be useful if posters could too when possible
