For all you ''old timers''Okay i have the facts of life to do....and using it for science in home education.I have a child who is very high functioning that needs all the facts to process but also emotionally probably running at about 5 at moment.(so bottoms and pants are hilariously funny).Thought i would start by doing life cycles, animal-humans.Then parts of body re reproduction. Then about keeping safe stranger danger -sexual partner choices. Then about Periods -this will freak her out! Then How to not be pregnant!!Taking care of developing body. Then about stubstance abuses.Feeling about/around puberty.Anything else i should be doing......give me 0-9years anyday !! Im now coming up to the -i have no experience in this age group! The eldest child looked after male was 12 and girl was 10....oh help!

Don't know if I can reassure you SLTW. I intended to "cover" all this in home ed but have found dealing with it as it comes up better. After a "session" (a rather shocking one after a conversation dd had had on camp)of question and answer I suggested we do a bit more about this for "school" and dd replied, "Oh, Mum, just tell me when I am 16"!!! Bless her. Good luck anyway. I'm sure others will give you more specific advice. My only advice would be not to plan it too much!

My problem is that it never comes up...she does not want to grow up....She will look it up in the library and then instead of 2+2 it would be 2 =22...Much more interested in being unsafe, glittery things, ahhhhh sparkles..young being baby again. Her aspergers brain needs information from start to finish!!

DD started her periods 3 weeks after her 11th birthday - this made me really sad. All the physical signs were there so luckily I had talked to her about what to expect. Its so sad they have to grow up when they have missed so much childhood. DD was nearly 8 when she went into FC and I still feel resentful that she has had to deal with periods so soon.I must say, though, she did cope well - just to reassure those of you waiting!

I think it's probably better to do it in stages. Tiny steps. Did you miss babies off your list? Does she like babies? Has she noticed anyone being pregnant? Does she have any pets? That might be an easy place to start, if not a good one necessarily. bizzy
