My boy was a duck today!

Seems silly, but for me it felt like a big deal...I even shed a tear. We were at a farm type place and went to watch a show, they were picking children from the audience to be farm animals for the last song 'old Mcdonald'. To get picked, the children had to put on their best impressions of the animals. Of course, all the loudest and most confident children got picked first. I saw my boy trying so hard with all of the animal noises and I was desperate for him to get picked...and he was, the very last animal. He got given a duck mask to wear. Then I got nervous as he then had to turn around to face about 20 parents and 'quack' when it was his time to quack. Now, at nursery, in his nativity, he was a shepherd, but as soon as he saw me he ran to me and would not take part, so I became a little worried that this 'duck' part may dent his confidence further. Oh boy was I wrong, he took up his duck duties with gusto. Seems such a little thing, but maybe not, he hasn't stopped talking about it since and I haven't stopped gushing about it to daddy!! I know I'm being a little indulgent, but we have had a few hard weeks signalling the end of 'honeymoon' with him and his sister, so I'm making the most of it!

Thanks guys, it does feel like his first little 'flutter' on his own. I was sat in the audience further back with his sister, so like many of these moments, I had to just hope for the best, whilst terrified I'd put him in an unmanageable situation. Many of his birth family suffer with anxiety, and he can be painfully shy, so to seee him take flight (sorry, not sorry for the puns) was such a very proud moment.

Little steps- right direction! Well done. That Come down from the settling time can feel like a really slump in the guts. Remember. This is actually progress. It might not feel that way at the time!
