Background check from America

lha303 October 2, 2020 16:42

Hi,

Has anyone had to get a background check from America? If so, if you could provide information on the process this would be much appreciated! I've been googling and am so confused.

Sorry I've also searched the forum with various key words and couldn't find anything!

I'm not an U.S Citizen (never was) and lived in America on a temporary visa from age 16-18.

I've been advised by our agency I'll need to get one in future (we've not started the process yet) as the background checks are from aged 16 onwards

I've still got time but I like to be prepared

Hi there,

I haven't had to do a criminal check in the USA but I imagine you will need to contact the local police department in the state where you lived and request a state criminal check from them. Hopefully it should be straight forward. I had to do a criminal check from a non-European country and went via the local police force of that country where I lived. It was all done online and it didn't take long at all. Hope this helps you.

I had to get an FBI check and have my fingerprints taken. The police did not respond to my request, so I paid a retired police officer who had set up a business near where I live for a copy of my fingerprints on the correct form.

Good luck.

Thank you :) having read up on it, it sounds like it’s a relatively quick process (6 weeks) and getting fingerprints might be the hardest part! Lol
