Opportunity for Wales based adopters to contribute to the Welsh Government’s review of Adoption in Wales.

Online Community Team March 5, 2012 14:12
The Welsh Government is currently undertaking a review of Adoption in Wales. In addition to asking agencies for their input/advice, the Children and Young People Committee (who are collecting the information) are also keen to gain input from adopters. Please see the information regarding this below and how, if you are Wales based, you can help contribute.Y Pwyllgor Plant a Phobl Ifanc Children and Young People CommitteeAdoption Inquiry: further evidence Thank you to those agencies that have already submitted evidence to the Children and Young People Committee’s inquiry into adoption, including those that have sought and collated the views of adopters. In addition to the evidence from adopters provided through agencies, a number of individuals have responded to the inquiry directly and their views have been collated and noted by the Committee. To enhance the evidence we have received so far, the Committee would like to hear from individuals with adoption experiences that have not yet been heard from. We are particularly interested in hearing the experiences of those who have adopted older children or large sibling groups; gay and lesbian adopters; single adopters; Black and minority ethnic adopters and those who speak Welsh. It would also be helpful for the Committee to hear from those who decided not to proceed with adoption following assessment or who have experienced disruptions. The Committee also plans to facilitate an informal session for Committee Members to hear the experiences of adopted young people and young adults.Adopters are welcome to submit evidence in writing, in informal meetings with Committee Members or in formal, public evidence sessions. Anonymity may be maintained for the first two options but not for the last, which is open to the public. Written evidence in the form of letters or statements may be sent to the Committee Clerk at CYPC---- EMAIL REDACTED ----, as may expressions of interest to meet Committee Members. In particular, the Committee wishes to hear about: Adoptive parents and families: - In terms of the support provided for adoptive families, what has been most important in helping to secure the permanence of adoptions and to help ensure the success of the placement? - What improvements could be made to the support given to adoptive parents? The Committee has appointed an independent advisor to the inquiry, Dr Sally Holland from Cardiff University. She will support and advise those who wish to present evidence to the Committee, and is willing to speak individually with individuals or agencies who wish to discuss options for presenting their views. She can be contacted on 029 20876910 or H---- EMAIL REDACTED ----. Yours sincerely Christine Chapman Chair
