Consultation - proposals to better support parents balance work and family life

onlineteamAUK October 3, 2019 13:18

Adopters and prospective adopters, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is consulting on proposals to better support parents balance work and family life.

Our recent Adoption Barometer report found that more than half of newly-placed adopters experienced stress, anxiety and/or symptoms of post-adoption depression. Respondents reported that short parental leave was mostly taken up by introduction, leaving one parents alone soon after the child moved in.

Adoption UK is now calling for 1) enhanced parental leave for adoptive parents to include time off for the introductions period in addition to existing leave entitlements 2) entitlement to statutory adoption leave and pay for self-employed adopters to be brought into line with entitlements for employed adopters.

Consultation closes next Friday. Follow the link to fill out the consultation and make sure the voice of adopters is heard: http://ow.ly/Vxn350wAgFz
