Initial Visit Help would be amazing - thankyou x

Hi there! We have a birth child and are having our first initial visit from the social worker tomorrow. We would be so grateful if anyone has any tips of things we should prepare for or good questions to ask? Our biological child is age 9 and we are looking at adopting about age 2-3. Many thanks x

I think just be yourselves! I tried hard to have a tidy yet lived in-house (as opposed to untidy and lived in house that we have now!) You might want to ask a bit about the process and how things might work once you are approved. Also ask about post adoption support. I think you have the age range just right. best of luck!

We have a birth child age 10 and an adopted child age 2. If I remember correctly the social worker had a quick look around the house. At this point it's just to pick out glaringly obvious reasons that would stop you progressing and that you have a spare room. The initial interview covered demographics, why we wanted to adopt, what children we will willing to consider, your understanding of modern day adoption. Also a few questions on your views on birth parents, contact etc. They're looking for non judgemental people with an open mind. It's okay to say you don't know much about adoption if you're not sure of anything. Honesty is paramount in the adoption process. Good luck, it's an amazing journey x x
