The ‘etiquette’ of arranging an initial home visit...

Wishmeluck October 11, 2017 15:47
Just wondered what the ‘norm’ is for doing this...we’ve been to a few open evenings and there are three possibly RAAs we can approach. I wondered if at this stage we have to commit to approaching them one at a time or whether we can arrange a visit from all three just to get a bit of a ‘feel’ for how things are once we’re in our own home. Don’t know whether I’m over thinking this or what people would usually do! Thanks :-)

I'm a long way down the road, but I am pretty sure you can look at multiple agencies up until the point you put in a formal written application to adopt - after which you will do things like preparation courses and the formal home study.

You can enquire with as many as you like but when you come to do the formal application it's one only. Most will probably want to chat to you either at the office or at home.

Thank you for your advice...I think what confused me a bit is each having a different system...so one has the ROI forms in the pack you get at the open evening, another arranges a home visit to see if you’re eligible and the other seems to vary depending on which area of the RAA you’re going through. I ended up asking one outright as I was phoning today about an info evening...from the stumped response I imagine it’s not the done thing to arrange to see several but I expect people do do that without mentioning it...I guess it’s like applying for multiple jobs, you don’t necessarily say that you’re looking elsewhere when you’re offered an interview! Thanks for your replies, it seems that I need to keep my mouth shut about looking at other agencies and nothing is formalised until the ROI is submitted. It’s been really helpful to get a unanimous response too! Far less confusing! :-)
