We''re home educating now!

REM June 8, 2013 08:49
Our eight year old was having lots of trouble at school. The school struggled to help him and found his interrupting habit impossible to handle. We gave them literature ( which I suspect remains unread ;-)) we took in the post adoption social worker, and together with the school SENCO, put together a plan. After two days the SENCO rang up very distressed saying that she felt ''trapped'' by the plan and ''didn''t know what to do''. She stopped using the interventions we had agreed and designed a sanctions plan instead. So we gave up and brought the boys home.I am terrified and thrilled.

Well done. Have you joined 'Education Otherwise'? Our 15 year old is on a 1 term countdown to home ed (should have done it years ago) if things don't look up for him. I need time to get up to speed on secondary subjects, but you should be fine for primary finding your way as you go.Hope it goes well.Let us know.BB

We started at Easter and it's certainly working for us. Good and bad days but as long as I keep calm and relax it works a treat. Ad misses her friends but not the actual school days. She is quite honestly a changed little girl. Our work 'refuser' is now suggesting things we could look up or work on. It is amazing how interested she suddenly is in learning. Good luck, relax and enjoy.

Fantastic!!You will all be so much more relaxed. I home educated for 3 years and it was the best 3 years of her education. There was so many things we could do, places to visit, activities, meet ups etc etc. Hope you both enjoy it.

Well done on taking the brave step. I also took my dd out in march she's in yr6 so not an easy decision but there was no way we could continue and there's only so many times you can have the same battles with school. Hoping to start back in September in high school but happy to continue if things don't go well. I found a few good Facebook groups hich had local contacts and was amazed at what things there are out there. Go easy on yourself, don't feel you need to be a full time teacher covering everything they did in school.
