Real family

Today during life story work we were looking at 2 family trees (quite basic) birth family and adoptive family. At one point the therapist said to Dash 'You get to have 2 family trees'. 'Yes' he said, 'my birth family and my real family' If at some stage he ever says 'you're not my real family' I will know what he means, but I really enjoyed that moment and will never forget it.

That is so lovely. And absolutely. Your real family are those who take care of you, no matter what, prioritise you, guide you and encourage you. Nothing more real than that. The rest is just biology.
