ds3 really chuffed with his results. He has mainly A''s a couple of B and a C in his worse subject English. SO staying on to do A levels in science and maths -gulpreally proud that he has achieved so much with chaos planet adoption around him. I know he was born into it and he has missed out a lot but he is doing well.one proud mum.

Congratulations to your son, amh. I think being on planet adoption can build up amazing resilience. Well either it does that or it destroys totally ... What a great achievement for him and for you in supporting him through it.Congratulations also to your daughter, Ember. That is an amazing achievement. My dd passed her English language GCSE with a grade A, so we are very pleased. She will take another six next year.I posted on here about six months ago with worries about her concentration. She was nowhere near being able to complete an exam paper in a timely manner, despite doing quite good work if time were no object. I was seriously thinking of paying for an ed psych assessment for ADD in order to get extra time in the exam. She seemed to pull it all together in the last 3 or 4 weeks before the exam. She is now feeling much more confident for next year (and so am I ).

Congratulations to those of you whose children were successful in their GCSEs. Although we had hopes for our (very intelligent, academic) girls we are now expecting they will not be able to sit their GCSEs next year. So I am in thrall of anyone who has achieved success despite their adoption history!JM x

Well done to all the young adopted people who achieved success in their GCSEs this year. They have had to go through so much to get there and their effort should be applauded. Some adopted teens though, as we all well know, will just not be ready emotionally to take the stress of exams, leaving school etc. They may get there eventually, they may not - a handful of GCSEs is not the be all and end all. A positive attitude to life, good social skills, reliability and trustworthiness are much more vital but unfortunately are not recognised as 'qualifications'. Yet we know how hard we and our children work to try and achieve these. I gave up long ago trying to force square pegs into round holes. Remember 'normal' means 'average' and very few of us APs have average kids. I say this as a teacher and adoptive mum of 3 recent school leavers, one with no qualifications, one with some low grades and one who is in the 6th form. I guess what I am trying to say (in a long-winded way) is that we just can't compare our kids to those that have always lived in a secure home. Most people know nothing of the trauma that adoptees have been through and how it impacts on all areas of their lives. So we just have to adopt the now famous 'sod it' attitude and celebrate our own good times when we can. X
