Approved at panel but ADM not approving us

catloversscotland May 8, 2019 16:01

We received a unanimous approval at panel 2 weeks ago. Yesterday we were told that despite this, the ADM did not agree with the panel’s recommendation and would not be approving us to adopt. We are obviously shocked and devastated. We may be able to do more work and go back to panel but have understandably lost all faith in the process. Wondering if this has ever happened before as I can’t find any evidence of it online? Thanks.

Did they give you a full explanation of why they made their decision? Can you work with them to overcome their concerns?

What is the ADM? Sorry...new to all this. Got our first home visit next week.

It’s the final decision maker. Has to go through him/her for approval to be ratified. It’s rare that it isn’t.

I recall posts about this happening about 3 years ago on these boards, you may be able to find if you search old boards. In that case the couple were successful in the end...

Hi, I just realised there had been some more comments on this post so thought I’d give a quick update. We did some more work with our social worker and went back to panel 2 months later and were ratified by the ADM second time around. We were immediately linked to a little boy and had matching panel last week. Now anxiously waiting for ADM decision for matching!

Congratulations on being approved and hoping that matching and placement go smoothly for you and the little boy.
