Book recommendation, body development

Woodmouse October 8, 2017 00:21
Hi, can anyone recommend a good book to sit down with my AD and discuss her body development and issues around personal boundaries etc? She's nearly 10 and starting to show signs of puberty but emotionally she's 5-6. I've had a quick look on-line and the books really don't look appropriate for her - including subjects that she really doesn't need to deal with yet. Maybe I just buy one and look at particular subject with her...

"Hair in funny places" by Babette Cole is for very young children. It has a page on periods, but my children hardly noticed when they were 7 (and there are usually onto these things). "Does This Happen to Everyone?: A Budding Adult's Guide to Puberty" has really fun symbolic pictures of vegetables and flowers which would make good conversation starters. There is so much information that my guess is that your daughter won't read much of it (the content is mature though). My daughters are 10 and 11 (chronologically and emotionally) and only dip in and out of the text.

Usborne's "What's happening to me?" (Pink and Blue versions) are great

Also like 'where willy went' about the journey of a sperm by Nicolas Allen The 'mummy laid an egg.' Is about the children explaining to the parents how babies arrive. Both suitable from 6yrs
