I''m a prospective single adopter wanting to adopt from Ethiopia. I''m finding it difficult to get clear information. I''ve tried the Ethiopian embassy in London, and cannot get through to the British embassy in Addis. Some sources say that single mothers can''t adopt anymore from Ethiopia, but when I spoke to the embassy in London, and to an Ethiopian lawyer, they said it wouldnt be a problem. Has anyone adopted from this country as a single adopter?? Ethiopia seems really geared towards American adopters, with dozens of agencies, but there is nothing for UK citizens, so it''s a landmine of bureaucracy and confusion! Any advice would be appreciated!

Have you tried Oasis? They have a lot of information about adopting from overseas.

There is a Yahoo group for UK adopters adopting overseas and a few people on there have adopted from Ethiopia. I am not sure they use agencies though you'd need to ask. Google UKAO.

HiI can see that your post is quite old and I hope that you have found the Yahoo Ethiopian adoption support group- UKEA.Adoptions from Ethiopia for singles living in the UK are considered on a case by case basis.Join the UKEA group and we can give you more information.Good luck!x
