Sats

ADOPTER November 16, 2012 17:00
Not sure if this is the type of thing to post here but I just wanted to say how proud I am of my AS he is 10 has asd and ADHDHe is year 6 and been practising for his sats. As he is very behind in school, has a statement and uses a laptop instead of writing they said they didn''t think they would put him in for sats. I have asked that he does them as he likes to be like everyone else and it would stress him to be treated differently. We just had parents evening and he got a level 3 in English practice test, they are very pleased as he is usually producing level 2 in class. I think he does better in a test like sats because they all have to be silent. So I am very proud that he is trying so hard I know sats are between level 3 and 5 so other parents might wonder why I am so pleased for him as its not ''top marks'' but I know you will understand what an achievement it is for him.x

It's an excellent achievement, and a self affirming one too (given that he prefers to blend in). He sounds pretty confident already, and these results can only bolster his confidence further!

That is great news! And actually, because SATs go from p levels (below 1) so there will be plenty of children not achieving a 3.My DS1 (bc with additional needs inc ASD) will probably be working at around Level 3 in Year 6 and I hope he is doing as well as your son!Well done to you both x

Thats fantastic. For soem children level 3 is the most amazing achievement. I teach children with SEN and i know how wonderful it is to get level 3 if you have learning difficuties.Only thing is that now he has got a level 3, he HAS to do the SATS, so its great that he enjoys the test situation. Really pleased for you, and you should be really proud.

That's wonderful. It's all about individual achievement, not reaching a set standard, and schools ARE moving this way too, thankfully. So Ofsted now measure individual progress which means everyone's achievements count. For me it is also a big positive that he obviously copes well with tests - my dd needed lots of reassuring with that side of it.

From the point of view of a secondary teacher, a level 3 in his SATS will also be a massive boost to his start at secondary :-) there will be plenty of other kids around at that level so he won't feel left out at all!! And it would mean that in geek-speak he would be on track to aim for a grade C at GCSE, which is the key to so many doors. Well done for pushing the school as well, so nice for all of you!!
