Just waiting until February!

Snowy December 16, 2009 10:41
Hi AllI thought I would post a catch up after PM - ing a couple of you on here for your experience and to tell you where we are now.Our story:Decided to adopt due to failures to concive and being told by consultant it was very unlike to my congential condition that I could carry a pregnancy past 15 weeks. I am also a double amputee with a spinal injury (full time wheelchair user). Hubbie is AB. So we decided to go down this route after many late nights We started our application in January 2009, had first initial meeting on 12 Jan and first LA info evening on 21 Jan. Due to disability had medicals in April and then got a place on Prep training in May/June. We were allocated our SW in August and had about 7 Home visits jointly and 2 individual visits. Any advice to anyone read books along the way. Daniel Hughes or Nancy Thomas were advised to us and be open and honest with your SW - have an ''I can do'' approach and it helps. Our LA also prepares us with futher training on top of Prep training which has been very valuable in the questions we have been able to ask regarding prospective children. We have also been to a couple of Children''s evenings our LA also provides which have been great too an in sight to the children who are waiting for families. We have a panel date for the 9th February 2010 and are still apprehensive and waiting for everything to go wrong and the answer to be ''NO''. So are now waiting for the weeks to roll by. I guess we can do no more while we are waiting.I hope this gives an in sight into where we are now. Thanks for listening an thank you to those who have PM''d me.Snowy x

Good luck for February..Our adoption panel was a February and I know how we felt at Christmas 2006 waiting for the weeks to pass.I have a congenital hip problem and have had several operations including a hip replacement.I have the added complication of the surgeon cocking up 20 years ago and leaving me with very little feeling or movement in my right leg.I have knee problems and chronic back pain due to the way I have to walk.I drive an adapted car and am registered disabled. The reason I am telling you all this is that we were approved in Feb 2007 and matched with our children in Nov 2007.In Jan 2008 our children moved in and were legally adopted in October 2008.They were just turned 2 and 3 when placed and are too very lively children. You can adopt with disabilities just stay positive. All the Best for 2010 especially 9th Feb.Tiglet
