Adoption Support Fund

Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice. DD was discharged from a tier 4 CAMHS unit in February 2019 with a diagnosis of PTSD due to her early life experiences exacerbated by something else that had happened because of her engaging in risky behaviour. The recommendated therapy was EMDR which is the NICE gold standard treatment and not offered by the mental health team locally.

An application was made in April 2019 to the ASF and agreed. A therapist was found in June who agreed to work with DD but unfortunately had to pull out due to personal circumstances.

For some reason the funding wasn't returned and there were difficulties in finding another therapist. An agency was sourced in October to work with DD but couldn't start until they received funding from the ASF.

The LA kept saying that the funding is with the original provider and they were having difficulty getting access to it. Now the reason is that it has been returned but they don't know where it is!!

Unfortunately because it is for the full amount the LA wouldn't be able to put in another application until April. In the meantime DD has been waiting for a year for therapy that she needs. Any suggestions on how we can solve this issue would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

It all sounds incredibly complicated and extremely unsatisfactory! If the money has been returned to them then they have it and should be able to use if for your DD - otherwise they are taking it illegally. Why should she have to reapply next year when the money has already been agreed. She may need next years too. Could you contact the ASF and explain the situation / make a complaint? Also someone senior in SS / PAS? Your MP? I think maybe write a letter to your MP and copy in the others and take it by hand to your MPs surgery so you can explain in person too? Good luck - you seem to be involved in so many battles at the moment! There may be other options others can think of which might help too but that is my initial thoughts
