National Adoption Week and more...

Press and PR Officer September 4, 2009 14:18
Dear All, I recently posted a message on the main Adopters board about National Adoption Week, which takes place from 9 November. In case you did not read that posting, I explained that this week provides us with an opportunity to get a message to the public about the issues facing adoptive families. We are planning a national campaign this year that strives to educate the public about modern adoption and raise awareness of some of these issues. One issue that we want to address is that many of the hard-to-place children out there come from ethnic backgrounds and that more black, minority and ethnic adopters are needed. As part of our media strategy I am currently trying to implement a database of people that are comfortable discussing their experiences of adoption for the purpose of press campaigns or directly to the media as a case study. Our press and media work will be far more effective if we can involve the people that are affected. I have created a questionnaire that by filling out we can get a better idea of your experiences and to what extent you would like to be involved. If you are interested in supporting our media work, I will send this on to you. It is important that information about the value and importance of adoption is out there so that these hard-to-place children can be placed. Furthermore, I would like to involve those people that have experienced the good and the bad. What is important is the desire to bring about change and best practice within the adoption sector – for all adoptive families and their children. If you would like to be involved or have more questions, please feel free to contact me by private message, phone on 01295 752960 or by email on ---- EMAIL REDACTED ---- for more information. Many thanks Erika PenningtonPress & PR Officer

Hi ErikaI would love to support your campain. I am so passionate about this issue and after years of frustration about the lack of BME adopters coming forward. I adopted myself. I am willing to get involved. My AD has been with us now for 10 weeks and although it is hard work she is great and we love her to bits. I am also a single carer. Look forward to hearing from you. I will PM my personal details to you. D.
