New online community partnership and Forum with Link Maker.

Online Team April 23, 2019 12:55
You have probably heard about our new online community partnership with Link Maker. With experience of running the most widely-used website for connecting prospective adopters with children awaiting adoption, Link Maker has fantastic digital ideas and expertise. And, of course, Adoption UK has the biggest, and most fantastic community of adopters. So it made perfect sense to come together to give you all new ways to build your knowledge and support networks, online. Our partnership kicks off tomorrow (April 24th) with the launch of refreshed Adoption UK forums. There will also be exciting new features such as live chat and a facility where forum users can safely find other adopters and families, to meet up with locally. Those with Adoption UK membership will have access to enhanced versions of these new features and, during the course of 2019, we will launch further innovations such as scheduled live chats with experts in our field and opportunities for local Adoption UK membership groups to increase accessibility by having an online presence. The forums will still be located in the same place on the Adoption UK website (but the URL/link will change) but you will need to re-register to be able to use them.We will send out full instructions about how to do this tomorrow. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email ---- EMAIL REDACTED ----

I hope this transition is smoother than the last two - both those times the forums were offline for weeks and then fell short of what users expected/had before... Have you listened to the users this time? I've not seen anything asking us to give you feedback? I'm just glad that I no longer rely on AUK for support....was disastrous for me and others previously....

I will say goodbye folks, in case we get cut off !! I can't afford membership just now so I will just have to live with whatever is still open. I am a bit annoyed. Last two times things changed we heard lots about it. This seems to have come out of the blue. Maybe it was in the members magazine or members area? Live chat with experts sound promising however, And local group info should help some folks. Best Wishes all. Pingu

I’ve heard it vaguely mentioned but not in any detail. Does that mean it’s just for members then? I’m not a member either - I used to be years ago but also can’t afford it and have only started using the boards after I was no longer a member. I read for years before replying to anything and even though I never asked for support I learned so much that way and got so many useful links to follow up. If it is restricted to just members then that’s a bit discriminatory (though obviously it makes sense financially) and AUK will become an organisation largely for prospective and new adopters! Who will be there to answer any problems posted? I will be without support completely (from the adoption point of view) not having been able to get my head around the potato group - largely because I haven’t given myself time to prioritise it I guess So it’ll be goodbye from me too (if that’s the case - I’m hoping it’s not)

I was hoping the linkmaker thing was just an added extra for those who wanted it. I am not very technologically minded so if it's changing again I may also be saying goodbye, so thanks to those who have given me advice in the past, particularly things that have helped us move towards a diagnosis which would not have happened had we relied on school. I thought closed facebook groups were used by those who wanted to link up. If it is possible may connect on the other side if anyone is left.

For anyone that wants to stay in touch - either PM me this evening and I'll give you my email address - or you'll find me on Potato. I won't join AUK again - too much negative history - nowadays I only post to give advice as I'm not happy to post our stuff on an open forum. Goodbye

Hi all, Sorry if some of you have missed previous announcements about this new partnership. We have posted info on the forum previously and have also sent out emails to forum users and posted on social media about it. The updated forum goes live at some point today (we're not sure exactly how long it'll take) and you will need to re-register to use it but it will still be free and open to all, not just AUK members. You can carry on using it just as you do now and we will send out full details of how to re-register as soon as it's live. This will be a quick and simple process. Happy posting!

Hmmm...couple of questions... If I didn't get an email before about these changes, will I get one about re-registering? What is happening to the current forum - will we lose all the old threads and private messages or will they transfer? There is lots of useful stuff currently that people can search on.... Thanks

Hi Bop, I'm sorry you didn't receive an email, I'm not sure why that would have happened so I'll double check to make sure you are on our list for the next one. We have asked for a redirect on the existing forum link so that if people try to log in to the old forum they will be sent to a new page explaining about re-registering. We will also be promoting it on social media. All of the current forum threads will remain available. We are moving a full archive over. There will be new ways to private message people but existing private messages will probably not move over, so it might be worth saving any of those that you want to keep. This will be the only casualty of the move over and we think there will be lots of benefits. Thanks.

Its live for me (and has been since around midday).....though there seems to be a problem that you can't reply to posts. Also can't find PMs and no "posted today" button..... Only got to this as I'd had a notification of a new post on this thread and clicked the link....

I’ve managed to log on too but it all seems to be rules and regulations at the moment - notifications lead here - I presume at some stage live posts will be transferred over hopefully

Just been back on and now you can't even post a new topic - there is a thread from the tech team saying how to reply - but that option isn't available when you log in... I just hope no-one really needs support just now... ETA - couldn't post a new topic as I wasn't logged in!

Well, that was a waste of time. I tried to re-register on the new system but it won’t accept me. Although I have not posted personal information on here for many years I did my best to help others. After 16 years it looks like this is the end of the road.

I'm confused - new forum, old forum ? Old forum if I go in from Adoption Uk, Linkmaker totally incomprensible
