Transplant

Hi I was wondering if I could be given some advice. I'm late twenties and single with a kidney transplant. I have always wanted to adopt. I am lucky to live a completely normal life, and I have a good job. I have my own house and car with a supportive family who live very close who would take an active role in the life of the child I would be adopting. I would like to adopt a newborn or nursery aged child in the near future. Do you more experienced adopters think that my health condition would cause me to have issues with adopting? Thanks in advance for your advice x

I think if your kidney transplant has been successful then this shouldn't be a barrier to you adopting. You may find they question you more about your single status. Being single is not a barrier to adoption but you would need to be committed to staying single during the approval process and after the child was placed with you for a considerable amount of time. This is quite a big commitment at such a young age. Hope this helps xx

I guess the local authority is likely to talk to your treatment team. There are a lot of factors what be taken into concideration and I have no idea how many people with kidney transplants have succesfully adopted, especially singles as they are even more strict when it comes to health, as there is no parent to take over in the case of illness. You need to contact a local authority or VA and ask them. I do think you need to be interested in a wider age range, as you single and working (what I pressume you continue) they are unlikely to place a new born or very young child.
