intro books for matching

dizzydebs August 26, 2013 10:05
hey there guys,I wanted to pick your brains (again! lol)I am looking at ways of making books for the intros - so lovely pics of the house, garden, me, the cat etc... I have been put onto a brilliant site that makes board books up:http://www.chloesmummy.co.uk/As I am linked with two children I want to make them a book each, and thought these would be perfect (LO is nearly 2) but having second thoughts about the older one - he will be nearly 3. He is very young for his age, so a board book may still be appropriate, but then I can''t help but thinking maybe a hard backed photo book would be better... I have seen the talking photo albums, and I think very cute, but not really keen on them...what are your thoughts? 2 books the same (but with slightly diff pics and colours) or two totally different books, or even one of the talking albums, but in which case who is that one for?thanks guys dizzy xx

Hi, the board books look lovely. I wouldn't say 3 is too old for a board book either - I've had nearly 4 year olds who still preferred board books to paper ones. Are you able to choose the wording yourself? You could write a lovely poem about yourself and your house. I'd definitely do two different books. They will both look at them anyway, and that way they'll get twice as many pictures. Make sure you personalise it as much as possible - lots of use of their name, your name, cats name.I do like the talking albums, as does every child I've moved onto adoption. They get to know your voice, which you won't get from a board book. That won't matter as much if you're doing a DVD too, but in my experience a lot of adopters shy away from the DVD. I don't think I'd do one board book and one talking book though as the children WILL fight! Either do two board books AND a talking book (expensive!) or just choose the board books/talking books.

Forgot to say we also did a hard back book for the girls just before we went court for AO we wrote a story and put pictures in it , looked great and we read it to then the story was about why we were going to court and what it meant to us all we used a site called, www.blurb.co.uk/It was very good and they were about £17 each to publish they look very professional good luck

Hi dizzydebs,I'd be really careful which site you use to make your books if you do go ahead with the board book. The terms of use from chloesmummy states:Chloe's Mummy does not claim ownership of the materials you provide to Chloe's Mummy (including feedback and suggestions) or post, upload, input or submit to any Chloe's Mummy Web Site or its associated services (collectively "Submissions"). However, by posting, uploading, inputting, providing or submitting your Submission you are granting Chloe's Mummy, its affiliated companies and necessary sublicensees permission to use your Submission in connection with the operation of their Internet businesses including, without limitation, the rights to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate and reformat your Submission; and to publish your name in connection with your Submission. Not sure I'd be too keen on them being able to do whatever they want with my photos. We made our own photo book and included pics of lo that fc had sent. I wouldn't have wanted that to have become public.Hope you find something that works for you

as people have said it might be might be worth doing a talking book at then the children will get to hear your voice. I think this helps enormously as they see you and hear you. Or alternatively maybe make a recording of you reading a story??? Maybe you could do a board book each??? And a joint talking one --- the board books but the talking one probably wont!!! I am making the assumption both children in same foster carers???My LO still loves board books and he is getting towards 3. He wouldn't sit still for a dvd but did like listening to the tomy talking book. In fact, he surprised the fcs by listening to it as was not a child who would really sit for stories. I also did a couple of big laminated photos of myself which the foster carers put in prominent places. All the familiarity meant he called me Mummy on the first day!!! (not that he would really understand the concept!!!). His sw got choked up at that point!!! It was a lovely moment .Very best wishes as you head to matching panel and then intros!!!Minnie x

yes i guess the TOMY book could break but mine are still fine the book we did to help explain the court and AO with www.blurb.co.uk/ we used animal pictures ie the judge was an owl it was a bit like the nutmeg story but just about our family situation help make it more real for them. We would never send in pictures of our family to a publisher, i think like rosewood says they are allowed to use your materials.

all the LO's I have moved on have loved the tomy photo book. personally I hate it becoz they all also liked to just open the book and shut it and open it and shut it, usually in mid sentence and several hours a day of that in the week leading up to intros starts to grate! but the kids love them and they move on with them so I only suffer for a couple of weeks!!when small bubs was in lead up to intros she loved the tomy book and it was out constantly, she only looked a the dvd twice and only with interest the first time, she was coming up to 3 at the time. talking books are great particularly for very little ones and especially if your accent is different to the one they are used to hearing.

We've done the talking book and we created a storybook with a cuddly comfort toy that he's going to be getting, so he can link something he owns already with us and our home. Our SW said it was perfect, my only concern is he's so little (9mth) that he'll chew it all up! I wish I knew about the board book site now!!!
