Health & Safety Questionnaire

Boards July 29, 2009 14:28

Hi thereWe are currently progressing our way through the HA and have just been given the H&S q. to complete. A lot of the questions on there are "do you have this or that" such as locks on cabinets/child gates/child seats in our cars etc. Now obviously we know that we need to get these before we bring a child into our house, but bearing in mind, we have yet to get to panel, are we expected to have this all in place now??We''re not sure how best to answer it, so that we don''t sound totally useless. Oh and there is a question as to how you would ensure that your cat doesn''t sleep/smother your child.... - apart from shutting the door so that the cat can''t get in there, does anyone have any sensible advice for us.Thanks!

Hi SkateseyOurs were answered along the lines of 'will be done before a child is placed' with a note that all the H & S stuff we had to do could be done in half a day (child locks, moving cleaning products and putting a padlock on the gate). As for the cat would it help to say it is kept in certain areas and not allowed near the bedrooms (incase littly doesn't like the door shut)? It was something like that we had for our dogs and cat.

I tended to write 'will be in place by time of placement', and that was fine. As for the cat, I hadn't heard of that one before. I would tend to say something like - cat kept downstairs at night, or something like that. Some SWs are very wary of cats, others have no problem. In reality, cats tend to give new small people a very wide berth!

I think will be done befoire child in place and if appropriate to age. That cat has its own sleeping place, would check room before put to bed, shut door..

will be in place at time of placement is a good answer, and also I would advise contacting you local fire station for a (free, well was in our area) and asking for a home fire safety check, it goes down very well with SW & panel (for the right reasons not just point scoring) and htey fit you very good, long battery life smoke alarms and point out any potential escape route issues etcx
