Approved, visually impaired and still waiting!

Sokolata February 8, 2010 22:12
Are there any other prospective, approved or matched adopters out there with a bisual impairment? We were approved over 18 months ago and we''re still waiting. I know it isn''t unusual to have to wait this long, but it''s beginning to feel like we''ll never have a match. Our SW has been very supportive, but it''s not her we need to convince that I can manage, it''s all the others. It would be good to hear from someone else in a similar position or better still someone who''s actually been matched. Here''s hoping!

HINo one has replied to you so though I am not visually impaired perhaps I could offer some advice anyway. Why don't you take the process into your own hands and go through the children who wait magazine and apply to an out of area LA. They are not allowed to discriminate against you so go for it.all the best

We have adopted twice ( 2 sets of siblings ) I have MS and walk with a stick sometimes. WE found that we needed to be pro -active in searching for children and tel the Social workers of children in be my parent, saying why we were interested in those children, explaining my experience of working with children, saying from the start that I had a long term health difficulty that caused me to limp sometimes. Social workers would ask for more details but because we were approved realised that the agebcies that had approved us had already decided that I had the ability to look after children .If you are looking for a V I child -there is a visually impaired child in Januarys Be My Parent magazine

HI thanks for your message. We have tried being pro-active as well, but with no luck yet. We only seem to get the "Children who wait" magazine, how can I subscribe to be "Be my parent"?
