We've received the following request from a photographer

Press and PR Officer November 27, 2018 15:31
Hi, My name is Ahmet and I’m a London-based Swedish photographer. I’m planning a personal photo project about adopted people and I'm at the research stage of finding families and people who have/are adopted. My main interest is to try and explore the identity of an adopted person and how that develops with time in relation to his/hers new environment. I’m not adopted myself but my family moved from Turkey to Sweden, where I was born and grew up, and I often struggled with my own identity growing up trying to decide if I was Swedish or how Turkish I was etc. The identity issue has consequently become a big part of my personal photography today. I am hoping to find families and children of all ages, genders and ethnicities that are open to being photographed over a period of time in their own environment. It can be someone who was adopted from abroad many years ago and maybe has his or her own family today or a young family who recently adopted a young child. The foreign country aspect is an important one for the project, as I will be looking at how British culture meets a foreign one, therefore I am looking for non-British adoptees. I am also open to be guided by the parents if they or a sibling would rather not be photographed for any reason. What I am essentially aiming for is a project in a photo-book format that captures signifiers of duality of how a person from another country adapts and identifies to his/her adopted culture whilst staying connected to their birth country. Together with portraits of the subjects I will also look to capture things like objects that the person might have from their country of origin to remind them of their roots. My background in photography started early in Stockholm and I graduated from the Photography course at University of Brighton in 2007. You can see a project of mine about the Turkish community living in Stockholm, published as a photo-book by Swedish publisher Journal and exhibited widely. Here is a link to it to give you more of an idea of my work and style. As I mentioned in the beginning, I am based in London and have a busy career in commercial photography parallel to this and other projects I work on. Therefore, any families interested would ideally be based in and around London at this stage of the project. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions at all. Hope to hear from you soon. All the best. Ahmet 07931854765 ahmetunver.com ---- EMAIL REDACTED ----
