Pre adoption planning?

dizzydebs August 13, 2013 23:56
Hi there, how time has whizzed by! I am now officially approved! how exciting! and I am already linked with a sibling pair, meeting their SW / FC next week... Now, my questions is - what questions should I be asking / things should be wanting to see or have in place prior to matching / placement...I have read through the pinned topic about questions for foster carer, but thinking more along the lines of ongoing support (financial / theraplay / S&L etc)Anything obvious that I may have not thought of? Thanks guys xx

Have you thought about education?So..if they have been to pre school ask for their learning journals. If they are at primary school what support they have had.Have they had any extra support ( e.g 1-1 support)if they have, how much and was in a key subject or general support throughout? If there are emotional issues, have they been referred to a specialist ( e.g Camhs) and how long have they been working with them?. What is the agencies support package for your children? I'd clarify how long the support is for ( our LA Has 3 years and then it goes to the authority where we live)Good luck..I was really nervous when we had our link meeting, but it all turned out well. We meet our LO today!Swimchicxx

Hey Dizzy Debs i have sent you a PM We are at the same stage again, haha - its great how you notice user names repeatedley at the same stage. We have made a list of questions for next week which are quite specific to the LOs for the SW but only started the list for the FC last night, we asked about potty training as it was discussed in the CPR and also dummies. We want to know if she uses a stroller for the LOs or whether just one of them uses one. How they are coping with nursery, we have also asked for details from their daily nursery journal to get an idea of any problems/recurring incidents if any! Its so hard, you dont want to ask too much incase they think you are being too OTT but at the same time it shows how hungry we are for info on them.Swimchic good luck for today, i hope it goes really well - Buttercup xx

Thanks guys some good points - Swimchic - wow!!! hope you had an amazing day with your LO!!!As for asking about nursery journal, I am very lucky to have been in to see one of the LOs at their nursery and talk with their nursery teacher and see their journal... So that's one side of things where I don't have so many questions...Will think on, and share any new ideas as I think of them...
